KampungKapitan is located Ulu, KecamatanSeberangUlu 1, Palembang, and it is situated upstream of the Musi River. By beneath the Ampera Bridge, you can hop on local transportation that heads to Kertapati and stops in the SimpangPasarKlinik. From here, walk to Simpang 3 where you’ll find KampungKapitan on the left. If you are confused, feel free to ask the locals for directions. KampungKapitan is a collection of 15 phase houses of Dutch Chinese and Palembang affected architecture. Palembang used to be a port for the Chinese, and til this day, there are many remnants of their occupancy.
Sadly, these traces and remnants are starting to fade away slowly. Following the collapse of the Sriwijaya Kingdom, a Chinese officer of the Ming dynasty known as captain Tjoah Ham Hin, came in Palembang. From the Days of Tjoa Ham Hin, this area changed its name to KampungKapitan that’s derived from his nickname Kapiten or Kapitan. Kapitan is the epithet of somebody in charge of leading the property and is appointed for that person that has the financial position inside the community.
Because of his standing, Kapitan resides in another dwelling. His residence has a dominant Chinese fashion but still retains Palembang nuances. The residence stands firm in the area today known as KampungKapitan. The roof style adopts the signature, whereas the inside and center part of the residential complex exhibit Chinese fashion.
