Grammar forms the structure for any languages. A native speaker will have a far better knowledge of grammar than a nonnative as they word their thoughts in their mother tongue than English. Whenever a student is given a written task it is the duty of the teacher to help them understand grammar so, that they can construct sentences that are relevant and grammatically correct.
There are a few common Grammatical Mistakes listed below:
- Improper use of articles namely a, an, the.
- The improper use of ‘to’ both as a preposition and infinitive.
- Contractions like ‘your’ and ‘you’re’.
- The agreement between subject and verb. The subject word agreement is very much necessary in constructing sentences.
When a kid starts to learn English Grammar, the following rules must be considered at all times:
- Sentence Construction: The first step to learn English is to form sentences using the words a child is familiar with. The teacher must be able to correct the mistakes in forming sentences. So that their speech and written articles have sentences that are grammatically correct.
- Capitalization: When learning alphabets children are taught both upper and lower case letters, thus when learning to write sentences they must know, when and where to use capitalization.
- Tenses: Children must know how to use simple tenses since it improves the quality of the writing. So they must be encouraged to know the difference between simple tenses of past, present, and future.
- The Apostrophe‘s’: This is a grammatical milestone for every kid. Since knowing a possessive noun is nearly difficult for them to identify.
To have good grammatical skills a child must be taught from the beginning to gain an intuitive understanding. If they practice incorrect methodologies in the beginning, they tend to follow it all throughout their lives. So making them learn correct grammar from childhood is very important.
