I have 3 school aged sons and we’re almost always on the go. Between games, practice, other school events and their social lives, they are BUSY, So not only do we have very little time, but we’re eating on the go a lot more than I’d like to even admit. It can be pretty crazy and I hate to feed my kids unhealthy snacks.
After much frustration at what was available to me at the stores, I started doing my own research on snacks that I could make on the one day of the week where we all got a break. I enjoy cooking so it wasn’t really a bummer for me to utilize my day off this way. Plus, I’d enlist my sons to help me since these snacks were for them.
As it turned out, the thing I needed was my Cuisinart food processor which was great bc I enjoyed using it since it makes things so easy. I went on to KirchenWorksUSA where they sell authentic Cuisinart DLC-7 parts and ordered some replacements because I knew I’d be putting mine through the runner. I got new blades, new bowls, and different sized feed tubes for different ingredients. I was ready to go.
I did some online research and found so many things to take when we’re on the run. We make different flavors of protein bars and energy balls (some are even no bake!) and they’re always a hit. They taste way better than anything store bought and they’re so easy to make and even easier to toss in a bag to bring with us.
They really do what they promise because our boys’ energy is sustained through the whole day between school, practice and games. It’s been a great way to keep them on track for the day in a healthy way. Bonus points for being full of nutrients that they need. That’s hardly ever on a simple snack label,
As a mom in this situation I’m really happy that we found a healthy alternative to all of the otherwise garbage snacks that we could just buy easily at the grocery store. It gives me peace of mind knowing what is going into my children’s bodies and knowing that it’s sustaining their energy all day. Plus, it’s ingraining good habits into them for the future.
I couldn’t be more thankful for the discoveries that I’ve made with my Cuisinart food processor. I’ll never go back to eating for convenience when I have a way to do something that’s way better overall. I highly recommend these ideas to any parents that are constantly on the run but struggle with wanting to make the right decisions for their children.
